Until We Meet Again: A Heartfelt Farewell to the 2023-25 Batch
On July 30, 2025, the Seminar Hall of our department witnessed one of the most emotional moments we’ve shared as a family. "Until We Meet Again" was not just a farewell - it was a celebration of memories, laughter, and a time to say goodbye to a batch that has left an remarkable impression in our hearts.
The program was hosted by our beloved Akshaya who took the stage, gracefully guiding us through the occasion which was later filled with joyful and heart-touching moments. The event started with an official note from Prof. T. M. Vasudevan, our respected Head of the Department, who reminded us how time flies and how each of his students play a key part in his journey of 30+ years as a teacher. Prof. Mohamed Haneefa K. reminded the students that there are opportunities waiting for them, and they should keep trying with perseverance. Dr. Syamili C. fondly recalled her memories with the students reminding us all that even though their time on campus was just two years, it felt like a lifetime of moments. Ms. Avani K. P., Mr. Arjun C. M., and all faculties and research scholars were present to honor the batch that has brought so much energy, dedication, and love into this department.
Another moment that truly touched our hearts were those small personal connections. As the seniors entered the hall, each of them was handed a small card - a piece of their journey here. On the front, a photo with their classmates, each captioned with unique quotes. But what made the cards even more special was what lay on the back. An alphabet, one that would eventually become the key to a chain of shared memories.
It was after the inauguration and felicitation that the mood shifted, as a video played - a beautiful tribute made from clips, pictures, and random moments captured by the students themselves. But in the middle of all the smiles, we were remembering our deep loss, our beloved companion, Saneesh, whom we lost halfway through the journey. His absence still felt heavy, and his memory lingered in the air as we all reflect on the times we shared with him. Even now, we find ourselves thinking of him, missing his presence, and knowing that he’ll always have a place in our hearts. After the video, the atmosphere was filled with mixed emotions as the host started inviting seniors, to share their experiences. Each student, connected by a letter from their card, shared their campus memories and their thoughts on the person assigned to them. It was a beautiful exchange of experiences. The meal was served soon after the event, bringing everyone together to relax and enjoy each other's company. As the event came to close, the entire department came together for one last group photo - capturing the smiles, the hugs, the tears, and the friendships that will remain forever. At the end of the day, we all walked away with hearts full of love and memories of laughter. We know this isn’t the end. "Until We Meet Again" is a promise that we’ll carry forward all the bonds we’ve made here. And whenever we meet again, it will feel just like coming home.

On March 19th, 2025, our MLISc classroom came alive with a heated debate: “Should We Fear AI Becoming Smarter Than Us?” Students split into two groups—one side worried about smarter AI, while the other saw its potential as a positive force. Both sides participated in the debate enthusiastically.
The highlighted points include: AI could cause job losses, leading to social and economic problems; If not handled carefully, AI could be misused or act in unpredictable ways; AI could make us less reliant on our own reasoning and judgment; while the opposite team claimed that Technology has always brought fears but humanity adapts and benefits in the end; AI works only under human control; and Working with AI can actually make humans more effective, not less.
The audience joined in with questions about fairness, ethics, and whether machines can ever truly understand people. The moderator reminded everyone that while it’s important to be cautious about AI’s future, it can be shaped for good if we are careful and thoughtful.
The debate ended with everyone thinking deeply about AI—not just with fear, but also hope and responsibility.
